If you're a guy reading this and you already know that you're guilty of what I'm about to call you out for, go back into the bathroom and start scrubbing.

Several times over this summer at bars, restaurants, and even at the Mississippi Valley Fair, I saw too many men not fully take care of business before exiting the bathrooms. Whether you finish going number one or two, there is still one very important job you need to do, especially in the COVID and disease-filled world we live in.

Now I'm not a germophobe, but I am a fellow male that gets disgusted by people and their disgusting habits, especially when I have to give you a stupid high five for playing Plinko.

Gentlemen, it's time to start washing your hands again after using the bathroom.

Dudes, Wash Your Hands After Using The Bathroom

Earlier this summer, I was using the men's restroom at a bar in Davenport. As I finished my business and I was washing my hands, another gentleman walked past me and said,

"Wow, I literally thought I was the last guy on earth that still washed his hands after using the bathroom. Thanks for washing your hands!"

While I find being talked to in the restroom slightly weird, the first thing that popped into my head was, "...that's disgusting." That means this guy has seen so many dudes not wash their hands that he had to thank me for washing mine.

It then got me thinking about the number of guys I saw walking right past me at the sink and out the door after doing their business and not washing their hands, even when a sink was available. Heck, even if there isn't a sink available, you wait to use the sink to wash your hands.

Also, when you get done doing your business at a business and your excuse for not washing your hands was because they were out of paper towels, try again. I'd rather you hand damp clean hands than dry gross ones.

In my almost 30 years of life, have I been perfect at washing my hands after using the bathroom? Embarrassingly, no. Ladies, I know some of you aren't washing your hands either so don't get all high-browed with me.

Let's make it simple. If you use a urinal or one of these:

How To Wash Your Hands

I can't believe I had to look up from the Iowa Department of Public Health on the proper way to wash your hands but, here we are.

  • Use soap and warm or hot running water.
  • Wash for at least 15 seconds.
  • Wash all surfaces, including wrists, palms, backs of hands, between fingers, and as much as possible under fingernails, by rubbing vigorously.
  • Rinse hands under running water.
  • Away from home, dry hands with disposable paper towels or the hot air blower.

Health officials say when you're at home, you provide a separate towel for each member of the household and wash towels regularly in hot water and detergent.
