Iowa Reports 467 New Coronavirus Cases, 12 Additional Deaths

Iowa Department of Public Health officials announced 467 new coronavirus cases Wednesday, increasing the statewide total to 6,843. Gov. Kim Reynolds said 93-percent of the positive tests are from the 22 counties where restrictions remain in place.

Also on Wednesday, state officials reported an additional 12 deaths – the highest single day total so far. One of the victim’s was a Black Hawk County adult over the age of 81. COVID-19 has now claimed 13 lives in Black Hawk County and 148 in Iowa.

According to Reynolds, 2,428 people who tested positive for symptoms of the coronavirus have recovered a recovery rate of 35-percent. She said 323 Iowans are currently hospitalized.

Black Hawk County health officials reported 1,326 local cases at noon Wednesday, a drop from the 1,346 cases they reported 24 hours earlier. Officials said 20 negative tests were erroneously recorded as positive tests Tuesday, causing the discrepancy.

Even after the adjustment, Black Hawk still has the more positive cases than any other county in Iowa.

A new coronavirus testing site is now open in Black Hawk County. The TestIowa Center began operations today in the parking lot of Crossroads Center in Waterloo. To determine who should be tested, Iowans must first complete an assessment at TestIowa.com. Then, an email will be sent with instructions on making an appointment.
