A couple of years ago, a Waterloo woman with the unforgettable name of Patience Paye called police on her boyfriend, with whom she’d been arguing. Then things got interesting.

When the cops showed up, they realized Paye was really drunk, and arrested her for public intoxication. (A test revealed her blood-alcohol level to be .267, or more than three times the legal limit to drive a car.) She was eventually convicted, but appealed the ruling, arguing that since she got hammered on private property -- her front porch -- she wasn’t drunk in public.

Well, there's a happy ending! On Friday, the Iowa Supreme Court agreed, and overturned Paye’s conviction.

Free Patience!
