A Popular North Liberty Soul Food Restaurant Plans to Relocate This Summer
Sugapeach Chicken & Fish Fry has been teasing some big news on social media this month! The North Liberty restaurant is planning to move this summer after a decade at their current location.
About Sugapeach Chicken & Fish Fry
Sugapeach Chicken & Fish Fry is owned and operated by Chad and Carol Simmons, who opened the North Liberty restaurant back in August of 2016. According to an old article from the Iowa City Press-Citizen, the business, which was previously named Sweetiepie's Chicken and Fish Fry, founds its new home in Johnson County after both locations in Cedar Rapids closed in 2014 and 2015. The decision to relocate was because they wanted to find a bigger space for the restaurant, and the name change was to avoid confusion with a group of restaurants in St. Louis.
Described as "Southern comfort food at its finest," Sugapeach is best known for its fried chicken and fish. The restaurant offers bone-in chicken, wings, catfish strips & nuggets, beer-battered cod, chicken tenders, and fish or chicken sandwiches. And, it wouldn't be soul food without the sides! Customers can choose from mac & cheese, collard greens, cornbread, candied yams, hush puppies, and more. Check out the full menu online HERE.
The New Location
As of right now (April 23rd), we don't where Sugapeach will be moving to. But, we do know when the restaurant will be announcing their new location. According to the latest update on Facebook, Sugapeach will reveal the details of the new location on Tuesday, May 5th. At that time, they will also reveal the date that their current location, 650 Pacha Pkwy, will be closing. In the video, Chad says that the hope is to reopen in the new space in August or September, and that the build-out is expected to take around three months to complete.
In the meantime, you can follow Sugapeach on all forms of social media for the latest information: Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. You can also sign up for email updates on their website HERE.
