Nor does it mean they'll come out worse for wear at a school not on the list.

According to U.S. News & World Report rankings, just over 2% of Iowa’s public high schools land in the top 10% nationally, a reminder of how competitive and high-stakes education has become nationwide.

At the top of the class is Iowa City West, which topped the state rankings again.

Not only did it repeat as #1 in Iowa, it placed 626th in the entire U.S.

As of the latest data, its graduation rate stands strong at 94%, with 61.7% of students meeting college readiness benchmarks.

Right behind, Gilbert High School came in second, earning a 100% graduation rate, followed closely by Pella High School in third.

Decorah and Liberty rounded out the top five spots they've worked hard to maintain, with Decorah holding the #2 spot for multiple years in a row.
