Corridor Restaurant Attracts Snowmobilers From All Over the Midwest

Harsh winter weather conditions may stop a lot of Midwesterners from leaving their house, but not snowmobilers!

Mother Nature has been dumping snow on Eastern Iowa all week, which means that outdoor winter activities are in full swing. Snowmobilers from all over Iowa and beyond have been out riding the trails in the area, and that's bringing plenty of customers to a Johnson County bar and restaurant.

Shuey's Restaurant & Lounge, located at 1158 Club Road NE, is right off of a big snowmobiling trail. While other area restaurants are empty because of the weather, Shuey's owner Jordan Caviness says that their restaurant has been packed. He told me:

"We've had people from all over the Midwest showing up and parking trailers in empty lots to come snowmobiling because a lot of trails in other states are closed."

And don't worry about the restaurant staff. Jordan says that they stay close to town to be able to get to work safely. Shuey's is open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m.

Shuey's isn't the only Eastern Iowa restaurant that's easy to access from snowmobiling trails! Wild Hogs Saloon & Eatery and Bully's Angle Inn in Walford are a popular stops for snowmobilers, as are Odie's Bar & Grill in Ely, Black Squirrel Tap in Swisher, Whitey's Bar and Grill in Lisbon, Jerseys Pub and Grub in Cedar Rapids, and more.

The reason that Eastern Iowa has so many snowmobiling trails is thanks to the Iowa Snowdrifters. According to their website:

"The Iowa Snowdrifters Snowmobile Club has created and maintained over 220 miles of snowmobile trails in the past several years. With the help of volunteers, we have kept these trails healthy and alive in central Iowa."
