Iowa basketball fans were probably aware that Luka Garza was in training camp with the Minnesota Timberwolves during the pre-season. Gaza turned heads with his excellent play and Minnesota wants Garza around for a while.

Minnesota announced that they have signed Garza to what is called a two-way contract, according to 247 Sports. That means that Garza can spend time with the Timberwolves in the NBA and also with the G League's Iowa Wolves who play in Des Moines. Garza spent last season with the Detroit Pistons averaging nearly 6 points and around 3 rebounds in 32 games. He also played in 16 games for Detroit's G League team, where he averaged 20 points and nearly 10 rebounds in 16 starts.

The Timberwolves front office is excited to have Garza on their roster. 247 Sports reports that Minnesota staff have called Garza a "perfect fit", and noted that "he can stretch the floor and he can score around the basket...not a lot of bigs can do that." Garza spent the NBA Summer League with the Portland Trailblazers, who won the Summer League Title.

It is unclear whether Garza will start out the year in Minneapolis, or in Des Moines. When he suits up for the G League team here in Iowa, he'll have a very familiar teammate. The Iowa Wolves signed former Iowa point guard Jordan Bohannon to a contract earlier this month. It should be fun to see both former Hawkeyes on the same court again!
