Iowa Falls police are investigating the apparent drowning of a man whose body was pulled from the Iowa River.

On Tuesday, authorities received a report that a male subject was in distress after he jumped into the river near the Washington Avenue (Hardin County Road D-20) bridge.

According to police, emergency crews were dispatched to the location immediately. Search and rescue efforts commenced around 6:30 PM.

Iowa Falls police and Hardin County sheriff's officials said in a joint news release that the body of an adult male was recovered around 10 PM. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim was not immediately identified.

Several agencies and individuals were involved in the rescue and recovery operation. They included: Iowa Falls police and Hardin County sheriff's deputies were assisted by the Iowa Falls Fire Department, Iowa Falls Ambulance, Hardin County E-Squad, Iowa State Patrol, Alden Fire Department, Hardin County Emergency Management, Franklin County Emergency Management, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Story County Dive Team, Story County UAS (Unmanned Aircraft Systems), Hardin County Medical Examiners Office and several citizen volunteers who supplied boats and sonar detection equipment.
