COVID-19 has not been easy for the transportation industry. We've all heard what the airlines are going through, but closer to home, there's been a serious impact as well. KWWL reports the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MET) has some employees, including drivers, who have tested positive for COVID-19. As a result, staffing is tight - and busses can only hold ten passengers now due to restrictions brought on by the pandemic.

As far as drivers go, if they have COVID symptoms, they are allowed to take off work in order to be tested. If they test negative, they can return when they feel better. If their test is positive, they must quarantine until they're healthy and no longer contagious. While masks are now mandatory statewide, for MET drivers, they have been a requirement since August. As the colder months roll in, MET normally sees higher ridership, but this year they've already seen 30-40% fewer riders as more people are staying home and only making essential trips where and when needed.

A reminder, all passengers riding a MET bus in the Cedar Valley are required to wear a mask at all times.
