Miley Cyrus is turning over a new leaf with her upcoming new album, and she’s been sharing about why she made some of the choices she did during her more rebellious period. Recently in an interview on the Zach Sang Show, she explains just why she was twerking so much: too much family time.

Cyrus says, lightheartedly, that she’d never do a Hannah Montana reboot because it’d be too much time to spend with her dad, Billy Ray Cyrus.

"I have enough dad time,” she says, as the hosts laugh. "That was really hard, every day from like 11 to 18. I didn’t get a school escape like most people. I went to work with my dad.”

Even getting her driver’s license didn’t help. “Then I started driving my dad, toward the end, that was when I could start driving, and also my grandma went with me every day,” she remembers. “That’s why, like, as soon as I turned 18 — you guys wonder why I was like, twerking at Juicy J shows.”

Cyrus just released a new single called “Malibu" that is certainly a departure from her “Wrecking Ball” days, going a bit more organic with her sound and a little less off-the-wall with the lyrics, which she says are about boyfriend Liam Hemsworth.

The artist was a judge on The Voice alongside Blake Shelton, replacing Gwen Stefani for the show’s 11th season. She had previously appeared as a key advisor in the series.
