We are approaching the end of our worst month of business in our history. This is not something that we would normally share in a social media post, but we honestly do not have the time to be silent about it much longer.

I really respect the small business owners here in Minnesota. Opening a business takes a ton of courage, determination, and personal sacrifice. It's different from big corporations because even just one tough month can seriously affect them, maybe even forcing them to shut down.

A small Minnesota brewery is currently going through its toughest month ever and recently opened up on social media to discuss its struggles and make a plea for support from the community.

It would be easy to blame things on “Dry January”, but this month will cap off the worst 6-month stretch in our nearly 5 years of business (Covid time included!).

The brewery warned that: "If things continue at the current pace, we will not be in business at the end of the year." Read their full statement below.

Since we opened almost 5 years ago, Thesis has become as much Rochester’s as it is ours, and we feel the need to share an update with you.

Thesis Beer Project is calling on the community to help them now.

"We are approaching the end of our worst month of business in our history. This is not something that we would normally share in a social media post, but we honestly do not have the time to be silent about it much longer."

The Facebook post went on to explain just how bad things are:

"We share this because we are often asked how things are going, and people are always surprised to hear the truth. That truth is that if things continue at the current pace, we will not be in business at the end of the year. This is an incredibly hard thing for us to admit, but Thesis does not exist without all of you and we want to make sure you understand our current situation."

Thesis explained it's been more than one bad month:

"It would be easy to blame things on “Dry January”, but this month will cap off the worst 6-month stretch in our nearly 5 years of business (Covid time included!). This is not just a Thesis thing. For the first time ever, beer consumption is down across the US while the costs to produce beer at our scale are more expensive than ever."

The Rochester company said other local brewers are experiencing the same issues:

"We know many of our friends in the MN and Rochester beer industry are seeing similar trends in their small businesses. Things change, preferences change, and what was once a viable business model for us may not be one for much longer."

And finally, they called on the community to rally behind them:

"We are proud of what we have accomplished over the years and proud to say that we have done it our way. That said, there are always ways for us to improve and evolve, and we promise you that we are still doing our best to make good things happen. If there is anything you would like to see us do differently or better, now is the time to let us know. In a dream world, we will be part of this community for many years to come, while continuing to grow as a brewery and as a focal point of the Rochester and Minnesota live music scene. For that dream to be a reality, we need your support now more than ever."
