A Northeast Iowa man faces a laundry list of charges, after leading authorities in a chase, slamming into a squad car, and sending an officer to the hospital.


The incident began at about 11:20pm Monday (Nov. 25), when a Fayette County Sheriff's deputy attempted to stop a vehicle in the 600 block of Highway 150 South in Oelwein. The driver, later identified as 26 year old Blayze Harding of Oelwein, refused to pull over, and a chase ensued.

During the pursuit, Harding committed several other traffic violations, including striking an Oelwein Police Department Patrol Vehicle. The officer, whose name was not released, was taken by MercyOne ambulance to the Oelwein hospital, for treatment of unknown injuries.

After the collision, Harding was taken into custody; a passenger in his vehicle was not hurt.

He is being charged with: Driving while Barred, Eluding, Possession of Methamphetamine 3rd offense, and Possession of Marijuana 3rd Offense.

The case remains under investigation, and more charges could be filed.

The Fayette County Sheriff was assisted by Oelwein Police, Iowa State Patrol, MercyOne Ambulance, and Oelwein Fire Department.
