PETA Wants (Robot) Groundhog’s Day
If you’re worried about a machine replacing you at work, you’re not alone. Even the most famous groundhog on earth could lose his job to a robot. Well, if PETA gets their way, that is...
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is asking that Punxsutawney Phil be replaced by an animatronic groundhog. Picture those scary robots you see at Chuck-E-Cheese coming out of a hole. That's the stuff of nightmares!
Phil is Pennsylvania’s famed weather-forecasting rodent. It predicts the onset of spring every year on Groundhog Day, which is this coming Sunday (February, 2nd).
PETA made this request in a letter to Phil’s keepers.
The organization objects to the conditions of Phil’s captivity and believes the Groundhog Day event is too stressful for him. However, the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club’s website states that he lives in a climate-controlled and light-regulated zoo which doesn't sound too terribly shabby. Especially for a groundhog.
So what do you think? Would a robot groundhog work for you?
