When you got a good thing going, you add to it and make it grow. Much like all of the delicious fruits and vegetables for sale at the Waterloo Urban Farmers Market in downtown Waterloo. This popular event is growing!

We have an additional market to add to our list of Farmers Markets in the Cedar Valley & northeast Iowa.

According to a press release, the popular Waterloo Urban Farmers Market is now expanding to Wednesdays from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. beginning June 2nd. This is in addition to its usual Saturday mornings at the RiverLoop Expo Plaza from 8 a.m. to Noon.

If you have one of the first 50 purchases during their first mid-week market, Wednesday, June 2nd, you will receive a free cantaloupe from The Produce Store.

Besides fantastic garden-fresh produce, baked goods, hand-made crafts, and an array of local vendors selling unique merchandise, they have a lot of fun on Saturday mornings. You can enjoy a  "Music at the Market" playlist while you shop, along with free kid's arts and crafts activities, or maybe try out a pedal car. On Wednesday evenings, don't miss the amazing food at "Hungry Charlie's" food truck.

Urban Farmers Market is now accepting applications for additional vendors

OPINION - This Cedar Valley Eyesore Needs To Be Demolished

In its heyday, the Rath Packing Company employed 8,500 people. It's still thought of fondly by many as what helped put Waterloo "on the map" and giving many area families a good income to raise their families. When rumors of bankruptcy started in 1979, the company became employee-owned in 1980. Despite many attempts to save it and massive amounts of money invested (from employees and loans from the city of Waterloo) all of those efforts ultimately failed, leading to its demise and liquidation in 1985.
