With the first significant snowstorm of the season moving across the state, several northeast Iowa school districts are dismissing classes early and canceling activities scheduled for Friday night.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for 19 northern Iowa counties for Friday and early Saturday. Nine inches of snow is possible in some areas. High winds are also expected to produce blizzard-like conditions in parts of the state.
South of the warning area, a winter weather advisory is posted for a band of counties. The advisory generally runs along and north of U.S. Highway 30. All of northeast Iowa is included in the advisory.
Due to the approaching storm, several northeast Iowa school districts are sending their students and staff home early. Below is the list of school announcements for Friday, Dec. 10, 2021.
Allamakee: Dismissing 2 hours early
Clarksville: Dismissing at 1 PM
Clayton Ridge: Dismissing at 1:45 PM; No evening activities
Decorah: Dismissing 2 hours early
Eastern Allamakee: Dismissing 2 hours early; No evening activities
Howard-Winneshiek: Dismissing 2 hours early
MFL-Mar-Mac: Dismissing 2 hours early; All activities canceled
Nashua-Plainfield: Dismissing at 1 PM; No afternoon preschool
North Butler: Dismising at 1:00 PM; All activities canceled
North Fayette Valley: Dismissing 80 minutes early; All activities canceled
Postville: Dismissing at 1:30 PM; No evening activities
South Winneshiek: Dismissing 2 hours early; No evening activities
Sumner-Fredericksburg: Dismissing 2 hours early; No evening activities
Turkey Valley: JV/V girls & boys basketball games postponed until 2/3/22; No junior high wrestling
