The Fayette County Sheriff has arrested two area residents, after a week-long investigation into several break-in's.

The burglaries were reported in rural Elgin and rural Oelwein.

On September 20th, a deputy pulled over a vehicle in Fayette County; during the stop, he noticed stolen property in the back seat of the vehicle.

A search warrant was obtained, and more stolen property was found in the car.
As a result, 34 year old Kaben Schmelzer of Oelwein was taken into custody, for two counts of Burglary in the 3rd degree, Theft in the 3rd Degree, Theft in the 5th Degree, two counts of Trespassing, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Authorities also charged 39 year old Steffeny Rose of Arlington, with two counts of Burglary in the 3rd degree, Theft in the 3rd Degree, Theft in the 5th Degree, two counts of Trespassing, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Schmelzer was being held in the Fayette County jail on $7,500 bond. Rose's charges have been filed with the Clerk of Court.

The investigation continues, and more charges are pending in other surrounding counties.
