UPDATE: Not even half of a week after winning a "life-changing" prize of $250,000 from the lottery, our winner was arrested for meth possession and drug paraphernalia.

Joseph Hellard won the scratch-off ticket on February 26th, with a $10 bill in his pocket that he found on his way out of the store.

Hellard was pulled over on March 2nd after Erlanger Police noticed his vehicle registration had expired.

A K-9 team was called to the scene on Dixie Highway to search his car.

As they looked, officers found a pipe for smoking meth, with a white crystal substance inside. The substance tested positive for methamphetamine.

Joseph Hellard of Elsmere, Kentucky was at the Elsmere Mini Mart for nothing other than to buy a couple of lottery tickets. After buying a few, he didn't have any wins.

On his way out of the store, he stuck his hand in his coat pocket and discovered a $10 bill hiding away. He turned around, went back up to the counter, and bought one last ticket.

He never would've guessed that split-second decision was going to be one that was life-changing.

“I figured no matter what, I would get my money back,” he told lottery officials.

Hellard bought a '$10 100X' Scratch-Off and scratched it inside of the store, finding he won a $50,000 prize.

“My eyes are bad, so I had to look at it several times,” Hellard said.

He kept scratching and found a 100X symbol.

The 100X symbol means the player can multiply the prize shown by the symbol and the prize was $1,000.

Then, he revealed ANOTHER 100X symbol with another $1,000 prize.

“I fell to the ground on my knees. I just couldn’t believe what I was seeing. It was crazy,” Hellard told lottery officials.

He said he plans on buying a new house and car with his winnings.

“Everything we’ve been through, it’s sure going to help," he said.

The mini-mart where he won the prize will receive a $2,500 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
