Volunteers are so important. They provide critical services in every community including the Cedar Valley. From serving as volunteer fire fighters or participating in search and rescue, to delivering meals to home-bound seniors or homeless youth, to manning the phone lines at domestic violence and sexual assault centers.

Here is the latest list of volunteering opportunities in the Cedar Valley. 

1. Hartman Reserve Nature Center is hosting a 5k and 10k snowshoe race followed by a winter picnic and family fun hike on Saturday, January 28 from 7:30 AM - Noon. Volunteers are needed to help with parking, race registration, timing the race, and helping rent out snowshoes.

2. January 28 marks the 125th birthday of one of the most famous authors of the 20th century, JRR Tolkien. Assistants are needed to help celebrate the author through some of his greatest stories at 10 AM, noon, and 2 PM at the Grout Museum District.

3. EMBARC - Ethnic Minorities of Burma Advocacy and Resource Center Waterloo is searching for a volunteer who will offer professional legal advocacy for clients in our refugee community.

4. UnityPoint Hospice Volunteer Orientation will take place February 23, March 2, 9 and 16 at Allen Hospital from 8:30 AM – noon. Volunteers must apply by February 16th and interview before starting the required 16 hour orientation. Background checks and TB testing is also required.
