Four Waterloo residents are recovering from injuries in a weekend motorcycle accident involving a deer.

It happened just before 8pm Saturday (Sept. 16), 2 miles west of West Union on Highway 18.

A group of motorcyclists were traveling west, when a deer ran out and struck the front tire of a motorcycle driven by 38-year-old Chad Brickman. The impact caused the cycle to veer into the bath of another motorcycle driven by 35-year-old Benjamin Tickal. Both drivers and their passengers, 36-year-old April Washburn and 35-year-old Katherine Tickal, were thrown off the bikes.

All four sustained critical injuries; they were initially taken to the West Union hospital. Brickman and Washburn were later airlifted to Covenant and Allen Hospitals in Waterloo. There was $7,500 damage to both motorcycles.
