Single people feel loneliness a little harder this time of year. The weather stinks, and there's the holidays, so people come up with a little arrangement.

It's like friends with benefits, but "cuffing" is two people being in a committed relationship for the winter months, with an opt-out clause once the weather gets nice.

Singles who want a steady date for cuddling and warmth, or companionship when the weather snows you in, or a plus-one for Thanksgiving and New Year's, are the ones most likely to take part in something that has been called "cuffing season".
