Burglar Takes Break From Robbery To Pet The ‘Guard’ Dog

A lot of people buy a dog for an added sense of security, but many dogs don't have an aggressive bone in their body, so their only possibility of holding down the fort is to lick the assailants to death. One robber in California couldn't get enough of a dog who wasn't even attempting to stop him.

"In a rather peculiar turn of events, as the suspect was about to make his escape, he paused to pet the household dog who had entered the garage," the San Diego Police Department posted on its Facebook page.

The unidentified male walked into the garage at a home in San Diego's Pacific Beach neighborhood at about 10:40 pm on July 15th to steal a 2019 Electra 3-speed bicycle which has an estimated cost of $1,300.

"This isn't your average bike; it's distinct, featuring ‘8-ball’ caps on the tire valves, an ‘8-ball’ logo on the frame, and a rear wheel frame marked with a checkered black and white pattern," the police department said.

Just as the robber is leaving the garage with the bike, the family's dog came out to say hello to his visitor.

The robber moves the bike back into the garage, puts down the kickstand and gave his attention to the dog with pets and belly rubs.

"You're so cool," the man is heard telling the dog. "You're the coolest dog I've ever known. I love you, too. You're a sweetheart."

Worried the dog would run away, the man called out to the owner, asking the dog "Where's your dad?" and saying he shouldn't "leave your garage door open."

Figuring the dog was going to stay in the garage, the suspect then got up and continued stealing the bike.

"The suspect is described as a white male, last seen wearing a blue and white hat, gray shirt, blue shorts, and orange athletic shoes. He was carrying a black and blue backpack," the San Diego Police Department wrote on Facebook.
