COVID-19 Shots Now Available To Iowans 65+ In Black Hawk County

Residents who are 65 and older can now set up an appointment to a COVID-19 shot in Black Hawk County.

Iowa Department of Public Health officials have announced the availability of a one-time, additional allocation of the COVID-19 vaccine. They are working in partnership with local Walgreens and CVS pharmacies in selected counties to redistribute unused vaccine doses that were originally allocated to long-term care facilities.

In her press conference last week, Gov. Kim Reynolds said public health officials anticipated a higher number of staff members at long-term care facilities. According to Reynolds, 64,000 doses (two per series) were returned and sent to select Walgreens and CVS pharmacies in Iowa.

Now, nearly 32,000 older Iowans in Black Hawk and a few other counties can get inoculated for COVID-19. Selected Walgreens and CVS pharmacies are distributing the vaccine, but the shots are reserved for individuals who are at least 65-years-old.

Individuals 65 and older can CLICK HERE to schedule an appointment at Walgreens in Waterloo or Cedar Falls. To register for an appointment at a CVS pharmary in either city, CLICK HERE. No registration code is required to sign up in Iowa.

According to a press release, all questions regarding the COVID-19 shots should be directed to the local pharmacies. Black Hawk County Health Department officials are not coordinating the appointments.
