An Independence man was arrested on multiple charges following a weekend traffic stop in Bremer County.

According to a press release, 33-year-old Nathan Williams was taken into custody Sunday morning after a sheriff’s deputy observed him driving a red Chevrolet Cavalier with license plates registered to a gray Dodge Intrepid on Iowa Highway 3 north of Denver.

Court records indicate that Williams is barred from driving for being a habitual offender. Authorities revoked his license for refusing an OWI test and also suspended his license for being a habitual violator and for non-payment of Iowa fines.

Sheriff’s officials said they searched Williams' car after a K-9 deputy gave a positive indication to the presence of an illegal narcotic odor coming from within the vehicle. According to authorities, deputies located 60.69 grams of methamphetamine, multiple plastic baggies, a digital scale and a glass smoking pipe during the search.

Williams was transported to the Bremer County Jail, where he was booked on multiple drug-related and traffic charges. He was charged with following offenses:

  • Intent to deliver more than five grams but less than five kilograms of methamphetamine (Class B Felony)
  • Failure to affix a drug tax stamp (Class D Felony)
  • Driving while license barred (Aggravated Misdemeanor)
  • Driving while license revoked (Serious Misdemeanor)
  • Driving while license suspended (Serious Misdemeanor)
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia (Simple Misdemeanor)
  • Fraudulent use of registration (Simple Misdemeanor)
  • Failure to provide proof of financial liability (Simple Misdemeanor)

Williams’ bond was set at $100,000.
