Heads up former Hawkeyes and Cyclones, your alma maters have taken a bit of a hit.

According to the Des Moines Register, both schools slipped in rankings on U.S. News & World Report's latest list of public universities. The University of Iowa dropped seven spots from 31 to 38, and Iowa State dropped from 53rd to 56th.

The rankings are based on data from 16 areas related to students' academic success, and this list has actually become a pretty big factor in deciding where to attend school, for both students and parents.

The rankings show that Iowa's universities slipped on measurements including first-year student retention, class sizes, graduation rates, faculty salaries and average spending on students.

Did you go to either of these schools? How was your experience?
