They named the winter storms again, and here in the Cedar Valley we'll surely be using "Chains".

There's also a Winter Storm Yolo! You only get shut in by endless snow and dangerous wind chills once! Okay, I wish it were only once.............

The Weather Channel has a quirky -- and by "quirky" I mean something that someone says or does that is funny to them and only them -- tradition wherein it lets the Latin class from Bozeman (Mont.) High School pick the potential names for winter storms each year.

Why winter storms need to have names like hurricanes do hasn't been properly explained, but okay!

“It’s simply easier to communicate about a complex storm if it has a name, which our naming program has demonstrated,“ says Bryan Norcross, the network’s senior hurricane specialist.

To that end, the entries on this year’s list of prospective storm names are:

  • Ajax
  • Bella
  • Cara
  • Delphi
  • Echo
  • Ferus
  • Goliath
  • Hera
  • Ilias
  • Jonas
  • Kayla
  • Lexi
  • Mars
  • Nacio
  • Olympia
  • Petros
  • Quo
  • Regis
  • Selene
  • Troy
  • Ursula
  • Vexo
  • Waylan
  • Xenos
  • Yolo
  • Zandor

Enjoy the shoveling! At least you'll know who is in your driveway.
