It's always better to be safe than sorry, or sick. That's the motivation behind a recall that's impacted a few varieties of cream cheeses in Iowa. The recalled cream cheese has ingredients that could possibly contain salmonella.

Salmonella can be deadly and is linked to roughly 420 deaths and 26,500 hospitalizations in the U.S. each year.

The recalled cream cheese is sold at Hy-Vee & Aldi

Iowa is one of 28 states impacted by the recall. We have two chains that sell the impacted cream cheese varieties. Aldi, which has several cream cheese varieties impacted, and Hy-Vee, which has two.

The cream cheese that has been recalled is made by Wisconsin-based Schreiber Foods.

Signs of salmonella

According to the CDC, signs of salmonella are diarrhea (possibly bloody) a fever, and/or stomach cramps. Vomiting and nausea are also possible. Symptoms are not immediate. They generally start within 6 hours but can take as long as 6 days.
