
Nurse At Mental Health Institute Assaulted By Patient
A nurse has been seriously injured in an incident with a patient the Mental Health Institute in Independence.
According to information from AFSCME Council 61, a union for state workers, a Licensed Practical Nurse at MHI responded to a patient with difficult or challenging behavior on Wednesday (Oct. 31, 2018).
The patient, whose name was not released, apparently punched the nurse in the head, causing a severe concussion. The LPN also sustained knee and shoulder injuries.
The union president noted that it took 12 people to get control of the patient.
