Tattoos can be a beautiful form of expression. Yes, sometimes people can make...questionable decisions if they decide to get some ink. Most of the time though these little pieces of art are incredible meaningful to the person getting the tattoo.

After doing some research, I discovered some interesting facts about tattoos. Tattooing is a tradition in many cultures around the world, and has been done for centuries. In some places, the color for the tattoo ink was actually mixed with urine. This is because it was believed that urine had antiseptic properties. Sometimes these artists would use coal dust too.

When getting ink you are also getting your skin pierced anywhere between 50 and 3,000 times per MINUTE! Ouch! In the United States tattoos are a multi-billion dollar industry, with Americans spending about 1.65 billion dollars on tattoos.

Also, in the United States, did you know that more women have tattoos than men? And that women are more likely to get their ink removed down the line.

A good chunk of that money probably came from right here in Northeastern, Iowa in the Cedar Valley. We asked people to share their tattoos with us, and here are just a few of our favorites.
