A second member of the Black Hawk County Jail has tested positive for the coronavirus.

Sheriff's officials said Wednesday afternoon that an employee of Summit Food Services, the company that prepares meals for jail inmates, recently received the diagnosis. According to a press release, the employee's roommate works at the Tyson Fresh Meats plant in Waterloo and had previously tested positive for COVID-19.

Pursuit to corporate and sheriff's department policies, the employee has been quarantined.

According to sheriff's officials, the kitchen staff has no contact with the inmate population and very minimal contact with the sheriff's department staff.

Earlier Wednesday, sheriff's officials confirmed that a contract nurse who works with Black Hawk County Jail inmates recently tested positive for the coronavirus.

So far, no inmates or sheriff's department employees have tested positive for the virus, sheriff's officials said.
