Snapchat Filters are Making People Look Too Good
Insecurity has hit an all-time low.
Snapchat filters are making people feel bad because they don't look as good in real life. It's actually being diagnosed as "Snapchat Dysmorphia". These are people who see their face in a Snapchat filter that's designed to make you look better and so people are getting plastic surgery to look more like the filter.
Dermatologist Neelman Vashi said, "Sometime I have patients who say, 'I want every single spot gone, and I want it gone by this week or I want it gone tomorrow,' because that's what this filtered photograph gave them." Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), is a mental ailment that makes people stress and obsess over any type of flaw in their appearance. Vashi co-wrote an article about Snapchat Dysmorphia in the JAMA Medical Journal saying, "This is an alarming trend because those filtered selfies often present an unattainable look and are blurring the line of reality and fantasy for these patients." It could actually be dangers so show people with extreme cases of Snapchat Dysmorphia a picture of them that is unfiltered. 80% of patients with Snapchat Dysmorphia have had suicidal thoughts.
Google trends reported that 24 billion selfies were uploaded in 2017. Those are just the pictures that were uploaded. If anyone has ever seen anyone take a selfie, you know they take at least 4 before you get the one you like.
I'm just really hoping no one surgically puts dog or bunny ears on themselves.
