Amazon’s New Wage Policy Might Lead To A Statewide Change In Iowa
When I was 16, I got my first job. It paid $9.25/hour at the time and I was stoked. Even today, not many places pay above minimum wage like that. But in Iowa, they might start, thanks to Amazon.
The company announced last week that not only are they paying above the federal minimum wage of $7.25/hour, they're actually doubling it. As of November 1, Amazon employees will be taking home $15.00 an hour.
According to KCRG, business experts are thinking this could change things for all workers in Iowa. It's been a discussion that's been happening in the state for awhile now too. Apparently, the last time Iowa raised the minimum wage was 10 years ago.
If you ask me, that definitely seems like too long. People need to make a living, and potentially support families. $7.25 per hour doesn't exactly make that easy. Fingers crossed this ripple effect really comes through!
