Target is shaking things up and will be no longer carry two of its long-running brands.

The retailer announced last month that Merona, one of its longtime women’s and men’s apparel brands, as well as the men’s items under the Mossimo label (read more) will soon no longer be available.

“Over the last few years, we realized we needed to make some updates and refresh some offerings in men's and women’s fashion and in our home space,” Target spokesperson Jessica Carlson told NBC News.

Target will reinvent itself by introducing four new apparel/lifestyle brands in-store and online this fall:

  • A New Day (women)
  • Goodfellow & Co. (men)
  • JoyLab (fashionable activewear)
  • Project 62 (home decor)

Millennials have most of the buying power these days, and this shift is clearly an attempt to--pun intended--target them, and get them to keep coming back, by offering exclusive items that are only available in-store.

My girlfriend is OBSESSED with Target...every shopping trip turns into an adventure because we're there so long. And she buys a lot of clothes there, so I'm not sure how she'll feel about this news.

Will you miss Mossimo & Merona? Will this change the way you shop at Target?
