The Cedar River is slowly on the rise in Black Hawk County, increasing the threat for minor flooding over the next several days.

The National Weather Service has posted a flood warning for the Cedar River at Cedar Falls until Wednesday evening (March 1, 2017).

At 3:45 a.m. Friday, the river level was about 1.9 feet above its 88-foot flood stage. Minor flooding was occurring and is forecast to continue through the middle of next week.

Forecasters are predicting the Cedar will crest about 3.3 feet above flood stage at Cedar Falls at midday Sunday.

The high water has forced the closure of Black Hawk Park in northern Cedar Falls. Black Hawk County Conservation officials said they decided to close the park late Monday night due to flooding and soft ground conditions. The park is expected to remain closed until conditions improve.
