An image of a dress went viral online yesterday after it was discovered that the garment appears to be different colors depending on who is looking at it.

According to E!, the debate started on Wednesday when a Tumblr user uploaded a photo of a dress and asked “Guys please help me -- is this dress white and gold, or blue and black?“

By Thursday afternoon, the image had sparked a national debate — with celebrities including Mindy Kaling, Julianne Moore and Taylor Swift weighing in. “I don’t understand this odd dress debate and I feel like it’s a trick somehow,” Swift tweeted. “I’m confused and scared. PS it’s OBVIOUSLY BLUE AND BLACK.”

Buzzfeed has since tracked down the original black and blue dress and explained that the picture was taken in poor light -- which causes people to view the dress as white and gold before their eyes adjust.

Yeah, well Buzzfeed is wrong. So my Taylor Swift and Mindy Kaling.

That's some really really terrible light if you ask me. What kind of light bulbs turn blue and black into white and gold? I'm much more willing to accept that the dress designer made a white and gold dress and started (or had) this argument online for publicity than I am believing magical color-changing light bulbs exist.

It's a white and gold dress. Don't even think of telling me otherwise.
