Finally…A Race Made For Someone Like Me
The words "fun" and "run" should never be uttered in the same sentence. Unless that sentence is "You know what doesn't sound fun? Going for a run." But this is a race I could actually win.
A group in Texas has organized a race for underachievers -- and you won't have to spend months training for it.
The first annual Boerne 0.5K is being dubbed "The Running Event for the Rest of Us." Participants--and I use that term very loosely--entered the race for a $25 signup fee. There's also a "VIP" option for those that are EXTRA lazy -- a Volkswagen bus will transport them the length of the course for an extra $25.
Demand was surprisingly high. Race organizers posted that registration was full as of last week.
For those daring enough to complete the 546-yard course, there will be a free donut and coffee station at the midway point (gotta have those carbs for energy!) as well as free beer at the start AND finish lines.
Racers will also receive a t-shirt, participation trophy, and a "super pretentious" oval window sticker. The tongue-in-cheek event is raising funds for Blessings in a Backpack, which provides food for underprivileged children.
