Shame, shame, shame, shame, shame, shame, shame, shame, shame, shame, shame, shame, shame, shame, shame, shame, shame, shame, shame, shame, shame, shame, shame on him. This is "Crappy News" for Friday, February 22nd.
Springdale, UT- A hiker had to be rescued from QUICKSAND.
34-year-old Ryan Osmun was walking along a trail at Zion National Park when his leg became stuck. His leg was buried up to his knee and he was unable to free himself. His girlfriend also tried to pull him out but was unsuccessful.
She hiked for THREE HOURS until she could find cell phone service and call 911. It took rescue teams an additional three hours to find Osmun, who showed signs of hypothermia as well as other injuries.
A spokesperson for the park says quicksand usually isn't a concern, but unusually wet weather was the likely cause. [NBC News]
Lafayette Parish, LA- A mom was busted for posting video of a school fight on social media.
Two students at Acadiana High School got into a fight earlier this week. One student fell to the ground and hit his head on a concrete bench.
A video of the fight was shared on Facebook, and it was filmed by 32-year-old Maegan Adkins-Barras, a mother of a student at the school.
Posting videos and photos of illegal activity on social media is against the law in the State of Louisiana.
Adkins-Barras was charged with unlawful posting of criminal activity for notoriety and publicity. She faces up to six months in jail and a $500 fine. The two students have also been charged. [KATC-TV]
I hate how our first instinct now is to take out our phones, instead of...you know...HELPING.
Manitowoc, WI- A driver was busted for trying to steal gas.
37-year-old Karl Kinyon was arrested after pumping gas at Kwik Trip and leaving without paying. Once is bad enough, Kinyon did this a combined 23 times at five different locations.
Kinyon told police that he had a "layaway" system with Kwik Trip and "always pays for the gas, eventually." He also claimed that he drove away without paying because he was late for a 2:30 p.m. court appearance. That's when the officer reminded Kinyon that he'd pumped the gas at around 3:30.
Police say Kinyon had still not paid for 14 of the 23 drive-offs...and owes Kwik Trip roughly $800. He was booked on multiple charges, including suspicion of retail theft. [Herald Times-Reporter]
